Mural voor het Sphinxkwartier

Mural as a fitting entrance to the Sphinxkwartier

At the intersection Boschstraat/Fransensingel in Maastricht stands a characteristic white building. The white facade of this building next to the new Muziekgieterij has now been provided with a mural by artist Collin van der Sluijs. Thanks to this mural, the industrial and unusual Sphinxkwartier now has an entrance that matches the atmosphere of the new neighbourhood.

On the borderline between Frontenpark and Sphinxkwartier

Collin van der Sluijs' mural marks the transition from the cultural part of the Sphinxkwartier to the rugged nature in the Frontenpark. Collin has chosen a song thrush because this bird produces no less than seven different tones. In other words: a one-man band, matching the neighbouring Muziekgieterij. The mural is framed by smaller elements that allude to the Frontenpark and the industrial heritage of the Sphinxfactories.

Berlin, Chicago, Tbilisi and now also Maastricht

Collin van der Sluijs lives and works in Maastricht. Within the Netherlands he has painted murals in The Hague, Nijmegen and Heerlen (among other places). Abroad his work can be found in Berlin, Chicago and - more recently - in Tbilisi. Within Maastricht his work has so far been limited to a temporary painting on the building fence that was in use during the construction of the underground bicycle park in Wyck. With this new mural for the Sphinxkwartier this overseight has now been corrected and Collin finally has a mural in his hometown.
