Landbouwbelang
The Landbouwbelang is located between the Bassin and the banks of the Meuse. It is a municipal monument and a former grain warehouse and transshipment company. The entire complex is 11,500 m² in size.
Redevelopment
There was a tender process for this site in 2023. The combination Group Machiels/Vestio and RO Group won this tender based on the design, programme and bid.
New future
The iconic design is by Spanish architectural firm Tuñon y Albornoz. As is fittin for the Sphinxkwartier, here too we are repurposing municipal heritage in combination with new construction. About 2/3 of it is designated for some 200 houses consisting of studios and (larger) apartments. Additionally, there will also be restaurants, sports and culture. The Zuyd study programmes currently located on the Brusselseweg will move here. The space around the Landbouwbelang will be public. The roofs of the existing buildings will get green squares. The characteristic cranes on the quay will remain and one of the cranes will become a viewpoint. The letters LANDBOUWBELANG will also reappear on the south facade.
Planning and follow-up
If procedures go according to plan, construction could start in 2026.
